Shoalhaven Greens members and supporters were treated to an engaging and informative analysis of the AUKUS alliance at a recent forum in Berry.
Greens defence spokesman, now Federal Parliamentary leader, David Shoebridge, headed the bill with a scathing analysis of the cost and ineffectiveness of the AUKUS submarine deal while revealing the US is setting up military bases all across Australia in anticipation of conflict with China.
“The US is relocating all these military assets all across our continent,” he said. “They are literally locating their war fighting with China and the frontline of the war with China right across our continent.”
Shoebridge said it was a “deep betrayal” by our political classes that put US interests ahead of our own.

Shoebridge was joined on the AUKUS panel by South Coast Trades & Labor Council secretary, Arthur Morris, who spoke about plans for a nuclear submarine facility at Port Kembla, Melanie Barnes from WAWAN (Wollongong Against War and Nukes) who talked about her anti-nuclear campaign, and community advocate, Yossra Abouelfadl who said we need to think about security in more human terms.
