State Greens MP, Sue Higginson, came to Nowra in October to meet local communities and help launch the Greens campaign for the state seat of South Coast in the 2027 election. Nowra community volunteer, Kim Stephenson, was announced as the Greens candidate for the seat.
Higginson said voters had had enough of the Minns Labor government and it was time to get real action on issues like zombie DA, the cost of living, effective action on climate change, and stopping native forest logging.
She said the election of Senator David Shoebridge as federal parliamentary leader had led to a record jump in Greens membership and the NSW election was a great opportunity to expand the Greens voice in state politics.
Local Greens officials confirmed they had also seen a jump in membership after Shoebridge took the leadership and vowed to replace Labor, rather than trying to make it better.
“Here on the South Coast, we need to send a clear message that our regional communities have been taken advantage of by successive Governments. From failure to reign in historic developments in our most sensitive environments and continued logging of our public native forests, failure to deliver accessible health and complete education opportunities, the Minns Labor Government has left regional communities behind,” she said.
“With Greens in Parliament, we have delivered for regional NSW. We are ready to establish the Great Southern Forests reserve, bring new opportunities from the Illawarra to Eden, and get democracy working for the people again and out of the pocket of billionaires.”
